EL TORO - Denver
About This Spot
Stepping into EL TORO is like slipping into a well-worn storybook of Denver’s vibrant neighborhood life—unpolished at first glance, yet undeniably full of character. Nestled along Colorado Boulevard, this modest Mexican spot carries the quiet weight of countless shared meals and late afternoon gatherings. There’s a lived-in charm in its walls, a space where time’s tossed aside in favor of simple, honest moments and familiar faces.
The atmosphere moves with an easy rhythm, casual and unhurried. It’s the kind of place where conversations float effortlessly between tables, and every visit feels like a homecoming rather than a visit. Amid the stripped-back surroundings, warmth comes from the people behind the counter and the clink of glasses raised in small, joyful celebrations.
In this humble setting, the kitchen’s offerings reveal their quiet magic. Meals arrive with a comforting authenticity—a hint of spice, a satisfying crunch, and the unmistakable flavor of recipes shaped by tradition and hands that know them well. From the tang of a freshly made michelada to the lively kick of house-made salsas, each bite invites you to slow down, savor, and return.
EL TORO doesn’t chase polish or pretense. Instead, it beckons with a promise of straightforward, genuine experience that’s as much about the people as the food. It’s a place for regulars and newcomers alike, where the imperfect walls hold perfect moments that keep drawing everyone back.

I came here for lunch with my partner, and to be honest, my expectations were very low. It's a dive bar, and the entire building is old and definitely in need of an upgrade. When we walked in, the inside was even more run-down than the outside. Paint peeling, chipped walls, and overall a space that immediately made me feel a little uneasy about sitting down. I honestly didn't even want to stay, but my partner was adamant about giving it a try. He ordered the fried tacos, while I was disappointed at first because I had been craving breakfast, but their breakfast service had ended about 30 minutes before we arrived. I asked our server if there was any way I could still get a breakfast burrito, and she was so sweet. Instead of just saying no, she actually went back to the kitchen and asked, and they agreed to make one for me, even if it meant leaving out a few ingredients. That kind of effort meant a lot, and I was so grateful they went out of their way to accommodate me. When the food came out, I was blown away. My breakfast burrito was honestly the best I've had in Denver, and that's saying something. If it tasted that good without all the usual ingredients, I can only imagine how amazing it must be if I come back during breakfast hours and get the full version. I also tried a bite of my partner's fried tacos, and they were incredible. Honestly, they deserve to be way more popular than they are. This place is such a hidden gem when it comes to food and service. If they invested in cleaning up and updating the building's presentation just a bit, I truly think they would bring in so many more customers. The outside doesn't do justice to how fantastic the food and staff are. I walked in doubtful, but I walked out a huge fan.

My Favorite Taco Tuesday Spot. I always get my lovely Famous Fried Tacos Chicken, And don’t forget their salsa so bomb. I love how they make a Michelada and Mexican Candy Shots the best. Thank You El Toro

Best steak tacos I have ever had. Same with the cheese enchiladas. Fast service. Friendly wait staff.

I think their fried tacos are the best tacos that I’ve ever had. Delicious doesn’t even come close. I told my girlfriend to put the salsa bottle in her purse lol. But she didn’t. Oh well that means we need to come back for more.

We had a wonderful “taco Tuesday” meal here tonight. The taco Tuesday price was 3 tacos for $10.00 and they were worth every penny. We had three orders of fried steak tacos while we were there and took an order to go as well. Our waitress, Kathleen (sp?) was amazing. Everyone there made it feel like family. The exterior looks kinda rough and the interior could use a refresh but it was absolutely worth the trip. Already planning a return visit with more family.

Best fries tacos in Denver. This place feels like home and the food does too. Don't let the spot fool you, this place is old school Denver to its core.
